Creative Learning at Howe High School

The impact of Joseph's participation in the collaborative technological programs may just be the catalyst to his ability to achieve a more successful and whole life in the future, as it certainly has during his previous years. Each of us have our own "uniqueness." Joseph has developed many unique traits through the creative and unique learning he experienced during his studies at Howe. This brought much positive feedback from teachers and myself, but will also prove to be a beneficial experience in his future; By using skills he has acquired through the years of creative interaction at school, he will have an advantage in the workforce and in future studies such as college.

These skills are certainly contributing to the development of Joseph as a teenager going through high-school, and not simply by helping him prepare to pass exams. His experiences have encouraged him to further develop his creative thoughts and stimulate his mind to challenge himself divergently throughout his everyday life. Simply by being more engaged creatively and thus challenging himself to learn in this way, he has gained a new found encouragement to learn, which will certainly promote more creative-processing of future content. Using this new found encouragement and depository of learning techniques, he has excelled further in his studies; Simply thanks to the use of new and creative technologies. This has resulted in better attitude towards learning, improved grades, and a wide range of future possibilities.

In summary, his experiences with learning in this unique way have contributed to his successful development as a young man and as a student, covering far more than simply his academic mind:

1)  Increased his academic interest across all areas
2)  Encouraged him to "participate" at school, rather than just "attend"
3)  Expanded his world view of people as individuals, with many differences and similarities
4)  Improved his understanding and skill of creative technology itself
5)  Taught him to apply new methods of learning, to what often is old, yet timeless material
6)  Increased his self confidence
7)  Broadened his perception of what his future may hold for him, beyond academia.

I believe these points address the concerns that new and technological (including collaborative) methods of learning can improve a student's ability to achieve on mandated tests. In terms of how we get to a future where creative learning is the archetype of all public schools may mean some changes in the current and traditional curriculum standards.
